Sunday 30 August 2026: Parish Mass for the Thirteenth Sunday after Trinity

You are warmly invited to join us for our Parish Mass at 10.00am on the Twelfth Sunday after Trinity.

This weekend, we are especially pleased to welcome the Reverend David Neno from St Peter’s, North Ealing, who will be our Celebrant and Preacher. We very much look forward to welcoming him among us.

As we gather for worship, our readings invite us to discover what it means to follow Christ faithfully: to set our minds on the things of God, to take up our cross, and to find true life in following him.

The prophet Jeremiah speaks of the cost of remaining faithful to God’s word. Though he experiences rejection and suffering, he discovers that God’s word is a joy and the delight of his heart, and that the Lord remains with him as his strength and deliverer.

The Psalm expresses a deep longing for God, seeking his presence and trusting in his steadfast love. It reminds us that our deepest fulfilment is found not in the things of this world, but in the God who upholds and satisfies us.

St Paul calls us to a life shaped by genuine love: holding fast to what is good, persevering in prayer, sharing with those in need, welcoming the stranger, and overcoming evil with good.

In the Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem, where suffering, death and resurrection await him. When Peter resists this path, Jesus calls him to see not from a human point of view, but from God’s. He then extends the call to every disciple: “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”

Together, these Scriptures remind us that Christian discipleship is more than words or good intentions. Following Christ asks something of us: faithfulness when the way is difficult, love that is generous and sincere, and the courage to entrust our lives to the One who tells us that, in losing our life for his sake, we shall truly find it.
